Every year, Edmunds (“the Car People”) releases a list of the Used Car Best Bets so that drivers like you—drivers interested in getting the best deal on the best product—can find quality vehicles at affordable prices. The 2012 list named a couple of Toyotas as segment bests for their used models.
The Toyota Tacoma took home top honors in the compact truck segment. Edmunds felt that 2005 through 2010 models offered top-level reliability and overall quality. According to Edmunds, the Tacoma triples as a “sporty street truck, an aggressive off-roader, [and] a crew-cab family truck.”
Also on the winning team was the Toyota Prius (2005 – 2007). The Prius is currently the nation’s most popular hybrid (and we don’t see that changing any time soon). Edmunds praised the Prius for its roomy interior and ample cargo space. And of course, its excellent fuel economy goes without saying (yet here we are saying it anyway). If you’re looking for the country’s best fuel-saver for city driving, then a used Prius is definitely your best bet.
